When I look in the mirror I see what I want to see. My 45 year old brain knows how to look at my reflection and make me feel good about myself – it knows me well. ;)

But last week I had some professional photos taken, and they have made me look at myself in a different way. The way that other people see me. And it made me realise that I have been kidding myself this year – mainly about my weight. But it also made me think about the fact that the way I see myself is not necessarily the way others do.

It has made me reassess my own reflection and whether I am being honest with myself about who I am and what I do.

Sometimes it takes a third party to make us realise that we’re not really living and behaving the way we think we are.

I blogged some time ago about businesses trying on their customer’s shoes to check they are really delivering what they promise.

In the same way, we need to ask the people who matter to us and our business if we’re living up to our reputation, if we are kidding ourselves about how good we really are, and if there are things we are doing which need changing.

Sometimes it takes looking at yourself through someone else’s eyes to see where you’re going wrong.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?
